Where the passion began

The start.

It all began with the first exposure to watersports at Asiento Brakkeput, where YSCO sailing club made optimist sailing possible for me.

The Dream.

After spending years enjoying activities like sailing Optimists, Lasers, and windsurfing, I developed a strong passion for exploring the sea. This prompted me to take my hobby to the next level. My sole ambition became competing in the Volvo Ocean Race. No Caribbean sailor had ever achieved this before, which only fueled my determination to make it happen.

Grow it.

I went to study Naval Architecture in the Netherlands just to gain an edge over the other sailors as the goal was clear I spent all my free time at sea, sailing and building experience.

Share it.

After spending so much time sailing all over the world it was very clear to me I want to make it possible for anyone on the island to experience what I was privileged enough to experience. So that’s where the idea for AWA Foundation began.
